Course Outline:

Day 1

Basic TRNSYS Concepts (presentation)
This session covers basic concepts, input data, input file keywords and simulation control, the TRNSYS solver, working with simulation results and an overview of peripheral TRNSYS tools.

Developing a First Project (hands-on session)
Students will put together and run a first TRNSYS system simulation.

Simulating Buildings in TRNSYS (presentation)
This session covers concepts associated with simulation of multizone buildings in TRNSYS. Input data, rudimentary physics of the building model, and analysis of results will be addressed.

Day 2

Developing a Building Simulation (hands-on session)
Information from the Simulating Buildings in TRNSYS presentation will be put into practice.

Creating New TRNSYS Components (presentation)
We will look at the internal structure of a TRNSYS component and learn what goes on inside.

Writing a New Component (hands-on session)
Students will write a simple model starting with the component skeleton that can be generated automatically from the TRNSYS interface.

Day 3

Creating Distributable TRNSYS Simulations with TRNSED (presentation)
One of the most powerful features of TRNSYS is the ability of users to quickly generate dedicated graphical front-ends to specific simulations. The resulting interface has much the same look and feel as a webpage.

Developing a Distributable (hands-on session)
Time Reserved for Discussing Topics of Interests and Specific Projects

Day 4
Optional

Air Flow Modeling using CONTAM (presentation)
A powerful new possibility in TRNSYS is modeling air flow using links between TRNSYS and COMIS or TRNSYS and CONTAM. This presentation covers how to carry out such a combined simulation.

Developing an Air Flow Simulation using CONTAM (hands-on session)
Developing a Combined Air Flow - Thermal Simulation using CONTAM and TRNSYS (hands-on session)
